As part of the London Medium Pressure Scheme, our Technical Support Engineers recently used the SynthoTRAX crawler to investigate the suitability of an old 48” cast iron gas main to act as a sleeve for a new 800mm PE pipe. The abandoned cast iron pipe was located along a road bridge that crossed over a Canal and would have provided a perfect crossing.
When it comes to surveying gas pipes you never know what to expect. Live or dead we have found the oddest things in gas pipes round the world. The initial survey looked very promising, until they literally came up against a brick wall inside the main. A first for us.
