Our engineers, Ben Loades and Joe Appleyard, had a very exciting visit organised by IGEM’s North East & Yorkshire section this week to explore the homes of the future!
Hydrogen is picking up significant momentum in the journey to becoming a leader in clean, secure and affordable energy for the world.
With that in mind, the UK’s first homes with household gas appliances fuelled entirely by hydrogen provide the opportunity to experience a zero-emission gas-fuelled home of the future. The project has been built in a partnership between gas distributors Northern Gas Networks (NGN) and Cadent and the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
It proved to be an insightful experience getting a glimpse into the technology and innovations featured in a hydrogen-fuelled future. Appliances such as boilers, hobs, cookers, fires and a barbecue are all hydrogen-fed and full interactable.
As more people turn to hydrogen for an energy source, visits like these are valuable in gaining more understanding about how energy transitions can affect the customer and their homes. Synthotech is continuing to develop innovations to minimise the challenges faced with energy transitions.
