Last week Synthotech hosted a Robotics and Innovation Showcase for a group of Senior and Operational Managers from SGN, this was a truly collaboration event supported by nine partners from the Synthotech Technology Hub, the event was held on a beautifully sunny day at our Synthotech Test and Research Site (STaRS).
This one day showcase focused on Innovation projects including TORS, STASS, GRAID, ServiBoost and many more. The event was designed to show what innovation is available for use now, what will be available before the end of RIIO GD-1, and provide an opportunity to collectively understand what SGN are looking to achieve in RIIO-2 and how the supply chain can best support them to accomplish this.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our collaborative partners for sharing their innovation projects, ALH Systems, Steve Vick International, Radius Systems, WASK, Control Point, MBW, Sarco Stoppers, C.Scope and Nupigeco.

This week we have been at Utility Week Live 18, it was great host a great mix of 50+ guests and new connections at the Isle Utilities drinks reception which we sponsored. Wez also gave a presentation in the Innovation Theatre – ‘Thinking Outside the Boundary Box’ which discussed our move into the Potable Water Industry and how we are looking to transfer innovation developed for the UK Gas Industry into the UK Potable Water Industry. #distruptiveinnovation
It was also a great opportunity to support Sarco Stopper in the launch of Gas Stent technology; this product is a prime example of successful innovation collaboration. Gas Stent Technology utilises Sarco’s ‘live’ gas approved Teeset drill base and combines it with Synthotech’s camera equipment in order to access, locate and position a gas stent.
Project GRAID was also on display on National Grid Transmission’s stand. GRAID is a robotic system that can analyse the condition of high pressure gas transmission pipelines, developed in conjunction with National Grid Gas Transmission, Premtech and Pipeline Integrity Engineers.
