The StarGLAND System is a versatile, safe and efficient “live access tool” that enables the tracing of PE and PVC gas and water pipe network systems. StarGLAND is an insertion method to allow operators to insert and use tracing wires inside pipes with no requirement to isolate the flow of water or gas, enabling faster and more efficient operations.
The kit is named for its innovative sealing system that allows operators to insert tracing wires without water or gas leaking out. The gland seals around the wire, creating a tight seal.
StarGLAND is compatible with a wide number of entry points, including: Multiple types of Emergency Control Valve (ECVs), Wall house entry tees up to 32mm in diameter, directly onto 16, 20, 25 and 32mm diameter PE pipes, and PE top tapping tees.
The system is suitable for use in low pressure networks (75mbar), medium pressure UK networks (2bar), and medium pressure overseas networks (Up to 5.5bar).
StarGLAND is in use with all of the UK Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs), with each GDN having multiple kits in service.
Compatibility is extensive, but the system is designed to work best with C.Scope tracing wires, specifically the 20m and 50m variants. Alternatively teams can use push rod systems with sondes.
Use of StarGLAND enables teams to deploy equipment faster, more efficiently and with significantly reduced costs associated with shutting off gas or water, and re-instatement.
